Also known as tap to pay, the Visa cards are faster, require no PINs
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 16, 2019 – Community First Credit Union has launched its new contactless credit card as part of its dedication to providing the latest technology and security to its members. Contactless cards – also known as “tap to pay” cards – allow cardholders to pay at terminals with the technology without compromising any data, pin numbers or credit card numbers at the point of sale. Community First is one of the first credit unions in Florida to launch the technology and make it available to both its personal and commercial members.
Contactless payments use short-range wireless technology to make secure payments between a contactless card or payment-enabled device and a contactless-enabled checkout terminal. When customers tap their card or device near the Contactless Symbol, payment is sent for authorization. The technology is much quicker than chip transactions, and like chip cards, each transaction contains a one-time security code that protects payment information.
“Community First is dedicated to providing our members with secure and easy payment options,” said John Hirabayashi, CEO and president of Community First. “Contactless card technology is becoming mainstream and consumers prefer the method even over using cash.”
Visa data reveals that by 2020, contactless transactions will grow by 75 percent over traditional transactions. Although widely popular abroad, contactless has recently rapidly grown as the preferred payment method in the U.S. with most major merchants domestically accepting contactless. Visa is the world leader in contactless card payments and technology. Other Visa survey data reveals that customers like the ease and speed of contactless transactions over traditional swiping or dipping their cards.
The technology is available with the Community First Visa Signature Credit Card for personal and business.
